Golden currant grows best in a fertile soil, however, they tolerate full sun to full shade, various soils and other adverse urban conditions.

Primarily grown as an ornamental shrub rather than for harvest of its fruit. However, the fruit can be eaten raw or made into juices, jams, jellies, tarts or pies.
