Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Best for moist areas of the landscape, such as stream banks and pond borders. Tolerates poor soil conditions because it is a nitrogen-fixer.

Additional Notes about Speckled Alder:

Native to Ontario

The foliage of Alnus rugosa acts as a larval host for hundreds of lepidoptera and the flowers provide for early-season pollinators. The plant in general  provides seeds and catkins for birds, and offers browse for large mammals.
