Striped maple is tolerant of many soil types, but grows best in moist, well-drained conditions, in dappled shade. It can be grown as a specimen tree or multi-stemmed plant. Any pruning should be done in summer. Mulch well, but avoid heaping mulch against the stem.
Native to Ontario and parts of North America.
Greenish bark on young branches and trunks is vertically marked with distinctive white stripes, hence the common names of Snakebark maple or Striped maple. Stripes may vanish over time as older bark turns reddish-brown. Both its fall colour and distinctive striped bark make it visually appealing.
