Growing and Maintenance Tips:

While the fruit is edible, the quality is somewhat poor. This plant has more value as an ornamental tree, and for attracting birds.

Additional Notes about American Plum:

Native to Ontario and parts of North America.

Larval host for almost 200 species of moths and butterflies including The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly. The flowers provide early-season nectar and pollen for butterflies and bees. The fruit is enjoyed by many species of birds and mammals, including white-tailed deer. The foliage and twigs are also preferred food for deer and rabbits. The suckering growth provides nesting and roosting spots for songbirds and small mammals.
