  • AKA Monarda punctata ssp. villicaulis
  • Very unusual small yellow flowers with purple spots rest on showy pink bracts
  • Flowers sit just above tiers of leaves, opening in sequence from the bottom up
  • Hairy toothed lance-shaped mid-green leaves, 10 cm long
  • Foliage has an oregano scent when crushed
  • Loose, clumping habit
  • Drought and salt tolerant
  • Bloom Time: June to July

Growing and Maintenance Tips:


Best grown in full sun and dry, sandy soils. It has a greater tolerance to sun and drought than other monarda. Will reproduce by self-seeding.

Native to Ontario

This plant is a favourite of a host of butterflies, moths, honeybees, bumblebees, hummingbirds, and wasps. 

The foliage is a larval host for some native moths.
