  • Finely divided bluish-gray delicate fern-like leaves
  • Plants will go dormant early to midsummer
  • Very similar to Dicentra cucullaria

Growing and Maintenance Tips:


Dicentra canadensis grows best in a moist, fertile, humus-rich, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, in partial to full shade. They normally go into dormancy early to midsummer.

Native to Ontario
The root tubers resemble corn kernels, hence its common name.
All parts of the plants are toxic to human beings, cats, and cattle.
Food source (nectar and pollen) for bumblebees. The tubers feed small mammals.
Seed dispersal occurs via a symbiotic relationship with ants.
