Also called Squaw Root, Papoose Root

  • Insignificant yellowish-green flower
  • Flowers finish and leave behind berry-like seeds
  • As the seeds age, they take on a blue colour
  • Seeds have lasting interest well into the fall
  • Emerging leaves show a tint of blue or purple

Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Best grown in a shady, woodland area in a rich, humusy, consistently moist soil. Slow to establish and best left undisturbed once mature.  

Additional Notes about Blue Cohosh:

Native to Ontario

Foliage resembles that of Thalictrum (Meadow Rue), hence the species name thalictroides.

Host plant for the larvae of Black-patched Clepsis moth.
