It will often self-seed to form colonies. Removing spent flower spikes will help prevent unwanted seeding.
Larval host for comon Buckeye butterflies, and Fine-lined Sallow moths, Verbena moths, and Sparganothis Leafroller moths.
Many kinds of butterflies, wasps and bees visit the flowers, and birds enjoy the seeds.
