Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Grows best in full to partial sun, in shallow water or a wet, mucky soil. Pickerelweed is an emergent aquatic plant that doesn't like to dry out. Grow at the margins of ponds with a water depth of 15 cm.

Fish (pickerel) seek cover throughout the clumps, hence the common name Pickerel-weed. The nectar-rich flowers attract many species of bees, including a specialist, Florilegus condignus. The seeds are significant food for waterfowl. The leaves and stems are breeding sites for dragonflies and damselflies. Deer and muskrats may eat the foliage.
