Pignut Hickory

Carya glabra

  • Open, rounded crown
  • Yellowish-green non-showy flowers

Growing and Maintenance Tips:


These are not generally planted as ornamental trees, as they become very large. In their native habitat, they are found on dry hillsides in full sun.

Native to Ontario

Larval host for hundreds of moth and butterfly species, including the decorative Banded Hairstreak Butterfly.
The nuts are staple food for large and small mammals and birds.
