Growing and Maintenance Tips:

A suitable spruce for wetter areas in the landscape. Cones are known to hang on to the branches for several years.

Additional Notes about Black Spruce:

Native to Ontario

Larval host for butterflies and moths, including the Columbia Silkmoth. The tree provides excellent cover for a multitude of birds and insects. Spruce Grouse rely on the needles for sustenance, squirrels need the seeds, and porcupines sometimes eat the bark.
