Growing and Maintenance Tips:


Removing unwanted shoots in the spring will help maintain size. Plants spread fairly quickly to form a large patch so it is a good choice for a large border. Clumps can be easily divided in the spring. Best grown in full sun to partial shade in a well-drained soil. 

Additional Notes about Plume Poppy:


There is debate in the profession whether this plant or its cousin Macleaya cordata is the more invasive one. Spreading by rhizome and by seed, it's one to watch.  Plan on managing the amount of space they occupy by digging up plants and rhizomes that pop up where they are not wanted.
