Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Tolerant of a range of soils and pH and best planted in full sun to full shade. Removing suckers is recommended to keep colonies in check.

Additional Notes about Witchhazel:

Native to Ontario and other parts of North America.

As witch-hazel fruit capsules dry, a year after they have been pollinated, they shrink and pinch the seeds to the point that they are forcibly expelled as far as 10 metres away.

Larval host plant for over 60 species of butterflies and moths. The flowers provide late-season nectar for bees, beetles, and moths, while the seeds are enjoyed by midsized birds such as ruffed grouse and wild turkeys, and by small mammals.
