Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Grows best in light shade or partial sun, moist to slightly dry conditions, similar to areas found in deciduous woodlands. The size of this plant varies in the natural landscape, depending on the fertility of the soil and moisture conditions. Pinching the stems in summer helps to keep the plant smaller. Somewhat susceptible to powdery mildew.

Additional Notes about Heart-leaved Aster:

Native to Ontario

Larval host for a wealth of moth species and also some butterfly species. The nectar and pollen attract many bees, wasps, beetles, flies etc; wild turkeys and other birds are known to eat the seeds and even the foliage.
