Typically grown as a hedge, this cedar can also be used in groupings for windscreens. This cedar grows almost as wide as tall, with a darker winter foliage that is more resistant to winter burn and drying winds. Protection (burlap wrap) from drying winter winds is still recommended in an exposed location. Damage or stem breakage may occur in the winter from ice and snow accumulation.
Deer find the soft evergreen foliage very attractive for winter food and will rapidly strip a plant.
