Rhododendrons require constant moisture (but not standing water), a fertile soil with a low pH and grow best in partial shade. Any pruning should be done soon after flowering to ensure bud set. Plants can benefit from protection (burlap wrap) against drying winter winds and sun in an exposed location.
Notable specimens can be found at The A.M. (Mac) Cuddy Gardens, Strathroy, Ontario. 'English Roseum' was hybridized by Waterer prior to 1900.
Seed Parent and Pollen Parent: catawbiense x unknown, possibly a sport of 'Roseum Elegans'
Predominant Flower Colour: Pink
Elepidote: Without scales, as opposed to lepidote. Large leaf.
Lepidote: Having scales. Tiny scales typically cover the undersides of the leaves. Small leaf.
