Rhododendrons require constant moisture (but not standing water), a fertile soil with a low pH and grow best in partial shade. Any pruning should be done soon after flowering to ensure bud set. 'April Rose' was hybridized in 1972 by G. Mehlquist, Storrs, Connecticut, United States. Seed Parent and Pollen Parent: minus Carolinianum Group x mucronulatum 'Cornell Pink' x white flowered dauricum x dauricum.
