Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Like other fruits, raspberries grow best in a fertile, moist, well-drained soil, in full sun. In its first year, a cane produces only leaves; in its second year, it develops fruit. Once the fruit matures the cane dies and should be cut down to the ground to allow the sun to reach newly emerging canes. A 5 cm layer of mulch applied every fall will aid in maintaining moisture, fertility, and help reduce weeds.

Additional Notes about Anne Raspberry:

Some newer cultivars of raspberries, including 'Anne', have the ability to fruit on first year canes. Pruning of these cultivars entails mowing them in early spring.
