Crepemyrtle prefer average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. Must have rich, acidic soils to ensure success, and is subject to chlorosis in alkaline soils. Highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.
While they may die back to the ground in cold winters, they will still boom in the following year, as Crepemyrtle bloom on new wood.
