Growing and Maintenance Tips:


Very desirable fruit make this plant worth the work to grow in our climate. Wood frame structures clad with clear plastic can be built to protect the figs that are planted in the ground. Figs planted in containers should be placed in a protected place for the winter.

References disagree on fruit production:

1. Female flowers do not need fertilization to become fruit.

2. Male and female flowers on each plant make every plant self-fertile.

3. Specific fig wasps are required to fertilize flowers to produce fruit. 

4. Figs are not a true fruit.
