Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Spreads by rhizomes and grows best in a moist, fertile soil, in full to partial shade. Flowering may become sparse as the patch becomes denser; thinning of plants may be required.

Additional Notes about Lily of the Valley:

All parts of this plant are very poisonous because they contain cardiac glycosides. Seeds of Convallaria majalis may cause stomach upset if ingested. Has been known to cause heart complications.

Spreading by both seeds and rhizomes, Convallaria majalis has been found to be invasive .

Grow Me Instead suggests Starry Solomon's Seal, Maianthemum spp as a substitute.
