Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Sporobolus cryptandrus is planted mostly for cattle grazing. It provides a lesser quality food source, so cattle eat other natives first, making more room for its dropped seed to spread. Sporobolus has a fibrous, very aggressive root system and once established, it is a very drought-tolerant erosion control, especially in sandy soils.

Additional Notes about Sand Dropseed:

Native to Ontario and most of North America.

The name sporobolus is  from sporos "seed" and bolos "throw", and 'dropseed' refers to the way the seeds spread.

Warm Season Grasses: These grasses are much slower starting in the spring. They do not push new growth until temperatures warm in early to midsummer. They flower later in the summer or fall with most blooms remaining into the winter. Most warm season grasses are able to handle the heat, humidity and drought, some even thrive in these conditions.
