Rhododendrons require constant moisture (but not standing water), a fertile soil with a low pH and grow best in partial shade. Any pruning should be done soon after flowering to ensure bud set. Plants can benefit from protection (burlap wrap) against drying winter winds and sun in an exposed location.
'Peppermint Twist' was hybridized by J. Thornton and introduced by Dr. L. Millar in 1992 (hyperythrum x 'Princess Elizabeth')
