Intriguing flowers are usually found high up in the branches, frequently hidden by the leaves. Lingering groupings of samaras (seed bearers) add winter interest. Ideal for large landscape areas and park settings.
Native to Ontario and parts of North America.
Larval host for Easter Tiger Swallowtail and Tuliptree Silkmoth. Visited by Promethea Moths. The flowers produce a lot of nectar and pollen, attracting many species of bees, and other insects, and hummingbirds, including the popular ruby-throated hummingbird. The winter-persistent seeds are enjoyed by small to midsize birds, and small mammals. If they can reach them, the twigs are browsed by deer.
