More than one cultivar must be planted in order to facilitate the best pollination and subsequent fruit production.  However, 'Gravenstein' is in a limited class and is not capable of pollinating any other apples.

Additional Notes about Gravenstein Apple:


'Gravenstein' was introduced to western North America in the early 19th century, perhaps by Russian fur traders, who were said to have planted a tree at Fort Ross in 1811.
