Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Typically grown as a hedge, the Holmstrup cedar also can be used in groupings for a windscreen. This cultivar is a good solution for landscapes where vertical space is an issue, as it has a lower mature height. Damage or stem breakage may occur in the winter from ice and snow accumulation. Protection (burlap wrap) from drying winter winds is recommended in an exposed location.

Additional Notes about Holmstrup Cedar:

This cultivar is one of the more shade tolerant cedars, ideal for partially shady locations.

Deer find the soft evergreen foliage very attractive for winter food and will rapidly strip a plant. However, one expert has noticed that in certain locations deer do not recognize the Holmstrup cedar as edible.
